Year 2 Fantastic Finish - Burning of London!

It has been a fantastic half term, in which we have got to enjoy so many fantastic activities themed around the Great Fire of London, including: taking part in a creative workshop, learning about the fire service past and present, looking at the changes that have happened across the city of London, having the fire service visit us, designing and building Tudor houses and of course the ultimate burning of the houses!

In order to allow for this day to take place, we created houses and shops for Pudding Lane, including the infamous baker’s shop and St. Pauls Cathedral using cardboard boxes. We explored the design of Tudor houses before we painted the design onto our buildings.

On Wednesday 18^th December, we were able to recreate the scene from London in 1666, when we placed all of the houses, shops and buildings that we created, in front of the River Thames and watched them being set alight! We saw how rapidly the fire spread across the buildings as they turned to ashes. We could even feel a little warmth from the burning fire as we stood watching from a safe distance.

It was a fabulous end to all of the hard work that has taken place this term!
