Summer 2-Exploring plants and creatures in the local area

Year 1 spent time looking at an enormous map of the local area and placed plants and small creatures in the areas where they are found. Then they explored some of the wildlife, plants and flowers that grow in our own garden at the back of the school as well as the seeds for different flowers and plants. 

Children then placed model birds on the large map and the common areas where they are found. Their role in seed dispersal was explored and how important they are to the eco-system.

The children really enjoyed bug hunting and inspecting them closely in the containers before releasing them. There was a strong focus on respecting the environment and the significance of each small component from the insects to the birds.
