Year 1 - Puppet Day
Wednesday 11th January 2017
Wow! What a fantastic time Year 1 had today when they took part in a puppet day! They spent the morning watching a fantastic puppet show and seeing how puppets move before spending the whole afternoon making the most amazing pirate puppets Chantry have ever seen!
The morning started with all of Year 1 in the hall watching the pirate puppet show, telling the story of the monster pirate that had stolen some valuable treasure. It was up to the 'good' pirates to save the day and rescue the treasure (along the way meeting a badly behaved parrot and a beautiful princess!). After break time, we went back in the hall, where Ron showed us behind the scenes of the puppet stage and also showed us how to bring the puppets to life and make them 'act'.
We then had lots of time to go on the different rides- a runaway train, cars, tea cups, indoor roller coaster and many more. In between, we were even lucky enough to watch a Christmas themed show in the Gully Theatre! At the end of the day, we had lots of tired children, but ones who had had a super day out!
When lunch time had finished, all 90 Year 1 children went back into the hall and spent the afternoon making pirate puppets out of paper plates, tissue paper and foam. The final products were absolutely brilliant and it was amazing how creative and imaginative the children were. A special thank-you to all the parents/grandparents that gave up their time to come in and help- it was very much appreciated! Well done to all the children for such a wonderful day.
