Bedfordshire Cross Country Championships

Wednesday 7th February 2018

It was my privilege to accompany four of our strongest long distance runners to this event.  Anyone familiar with Ampthill Park in Bedfordshire will understand what a challenging terrain this is conquer.  There are numerous hills to power up and down, mud pathways and lots of rabbit holes to try to avoid along the route.  On the positive side it is a beautiful park with some amazing views and a great atmosphere for all the runners involved.

Chantry were invited to attend with the four runners that showed outstanding performances at the local Cross Country event at Stockwood Park in January.  Our two girls completed a 2 kilometre course, whilst the boys had the extra challenge of a 3.27 kilometre course.  All the competitors were a pleasure to spend the afternoon with, it’s always amazing to see our Chantry children work so hard showing great resilience and determination in the cold and demanding conditions.  They were a real credit to themselves and Chantry Primary Academy.

Each race had approximately 50 runners competing so our young people did very well to come 43rd, 42nd, 34th and 33rd in their categories.  Amongst our team were one Year 4 student, one Year 5 student and two Year 6 students.  These races were for a combination of Year 6 and 7 children who are the best in the County.  Considering our runners were competing against the top Year 7 athletes in Bedfordshire our Chantry team performed brilliantly well, keeping a positive outlook throughout.
