Luton Sportshall Athletics Finals for Year 3 & 4

Wednesday 9th January 2019

This morning Chantry participated in this most prestigious event.  Having qualified on the 5th December our team of eighteen stepped up to the physical challenge of facing the other top seven teams in Luton.  Each of the four Luton areas are awarded two places in these finals so the performances are always of a very high standard.

Our team participated in six track events and six field events throughout the morning, with each performer earning points for their team wherever their placement in the activities.

Events are as follows:

Obstacle Relay

Chest Push Throw

1 + 1 Lap Relay

Five Strides Run

2 + 2 Lap Relay

Standing Long Jump

1 + 1 Lap Hurdles Relay

Vertical Jump

Over & Under Relay

Javelin Throw

4 x 1 Lap Relay

Speed Bounce Jump

Every one of our performers was a credit to the Academy, not only in their focussed and determined approach to the competition but also in their responsible and sensible behaviour throughout the event.  Our Chantry Values continually shine through these dedicated and talented young people and it makes us most proud of them and their achievements.

After a very close competition we were awarded third place with Pirton coming second and Hillborough in first place.  Each and every one of our children were a pleasure to support and coach, rewarding us with some amazing performances and team spirit.

This is a yearly event so the Year 4 children will have another chance to perform at the Year 5 & 6 event next year and our Year 3 children will compete again at the Year 3 & 4 event next winter.

Thanks goes to the two Year 3 teaching assistants who supported us at both events and the Year 3 teachers who ensure they are able to do so.  Can I also thank our parents for supporting their children and ensuring they are ready to compete, it is appreciated.
