Our school kitchen is proud to serve a variety of healthy freshly cooked meals, fully prepared and cooked on the premises daily. Our catering service is Luton Borough Council, who work with us to plan menus which meet all of the Government's nutritional guidelines whilst also recognising children's tastes and preferences.
We now offer a full Halal menu alongside non-Halal, observing full separation of storage, preparation and service between the Halal and non-Halal food. This enables us to meet the needs of all of our families.
School meals can also be adapted for any specific dietary requirements, such as dairy or wheat intolerances, please see the kitchen manager if your child has any particular needs.
All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 may eat school meals on a daily basis FREE of charge. The Government funded 'Universal Free School Meals' scheme funds schools to provide a meal for our infant classes. You don't need to do anything to take up this offer except register your child online at Tucasi. You do not need to make any payment - the meals are free for all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.
If you want to see what meals your child will have next week, these are always attached to the weekly newsletter that the school sends out. These are available from our Newsletters page
If your child usually has a packed lunch and you would like them to have occasional school meals (including a Christmas lunch), please register them on the system anyway, so that we can register their meal when they do choose to have one. A number of children who usually prefer packed lunches eat a school meal on Fridays, as the kitchen traditionally cooks pizza on Fridays.
If your child prefers packed lunches but you would like them to take up the offer of a free lunch in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, the kitchen offer a 'Grab Bag', which contains a sandwich, vegetable sticks, a cake or biscuit and an orange juice. These are available every day, throughout the year
Older pupils, in Years 3-6 are still required to pay for school meals, these are currently charged at £2.15 per day (£10.75 per week). If your child has school meals, you may be entitled to have these free. If you think you may be eligible for Free School Meals, please ask at the school office for details of how to apply. All money is payable in advance and we use an online payment system - see our payments page for more details.
If you prefer your child to have packed a lunch from home, please ensure that you encourage healthy eating, perhaps by using wholemeal bread and providing fruit. Children are not allowed fizzy drinks, sweets or chocolate bars in their lunches. Lunchboxes should be a standard size and plastic boxes with a handle are preferred, they must also be named.
Fruit and vegetable snacks are available free to children throughout the school. We encourage children to drink water during the day, children should bring a named water bottle to school each day.
